Ingredients List

  1. 250g cuttlefish, cleaned and cut into bite-sized pieces
  2. 1 small shallot, finely diced
  3. 1 garlic clove, minced
  4. 1 small red chili pepper, finely chopped (adjust to taste)
  5. 1 cup diced tomatoes (fresh or canned)
  6. 1 tablespoon capers, drained
  7. ¼ cup white wine
  8. Juice of ½ lemon
  9. 1 tablespoon olive oil
  10. 1 spring onion, thinly sliced (for garnish)
  11. Salt & pepper, to taste
  12. Optional: crusty bread or steamed rice, to serve

Steps

  1. Clean the cuttlefish and slice it into bite-sized pieces. Set aside.
  2. Heat a drizzle of olive oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add the diced shallots and garlic, cooking until softened and fragrant, about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Stir in the red chili pepper and cook for an additional minute. Add the diced tomatoes and capers, then simmer for 5 minutes to allow the flavours to combine.
  4. Pour in the white wine and squeeze in the juice of half a lemon. Stir well and let the mixture simmer for another 2 minutes.
  5. Add the cuttlefish pieces to the pan and cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cuttlefish is tender and cooked through.
  6. Garnish with sliced spring onion before serving. Serve hot with your choice of bread or rice.
